The Design Guide is an annual architecture and design magazine printed in New Zealand.

Each issue investigates a current theme in architecture through a collection of insightful and innovative case studies. Architects and designers write about their work, discussing the various design constraints and opportunities brought about by the site and its context, the brief and budget, the materials and technology, and, not least, the culture in which the house is built.

A very conventional approach to housing currently dominates New Zealand cities, and there is an urgent call for a greater variety of solutions to the issues of growth, affordability and sustainability. We can utilise intelligent new architectures and dwelling types, linked to a wider urban and transport strategy, to help us build more vibrant, sustainable and connected communities.

Our mission is to educate and inspire consumers and design professionals by showcasing new solutions to house design. Written by professionals at the coal face, you get to see some of the latest thinking in architecture from around New Zealand and the world.
