Sense of Space

A spectacular addition to the rear of a Federation villa in Neutral Bay, Sydney, and a reworking of the existing home, takes an archetypal gable design and tweaks it to create a living and area of soaring vaulted ceilings and expansive volumes and an intimate bedroom of clever thinking.

When we say ‘clever thinking’, that extends into the living space as well. The stunning offset black fin frames that break up the glazing on the back wall help control sunlight into the thermal mass of the concrete floor – none in the summer and plenty in the winter.

A trapezoid window in the street facing wall of the new living extension brings additional sunlight into the what could otherwise be a much darker space.
